Scottish Thistle Pendant

The thistle was adopted as the Emblem of Scotland during the rein of Alexander III (1249 -1286).

The Army of King Haakon of Norway, tried to surprise the sleeping Scots by attacking at night. In order to move more stealthilythe Norsemen removed their footwear.

As they drew near to the Scots one of Haakon's men stepped on a thistle, shrieked out in pain, alerting the Clansmen of the advancing Norsemen.

The first use of the Thistle as a royal symbol of Scotland was on silver coins issued by James III in 1470

Made with fine pewter, this Thistle necklace is 1 1/4" (32 mm) in diameter and comes on a 36" 2.5mm Adjustable Black Cotton Cord
